In May of 2012, journalist Dan Rather reported that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez:
is dying of cancer and might not live to see the October elections there
Rather's predictions, regarding Chavez's death before October, proved to be false (in fact, Chavez WON such elections). But the information about the type of Chavez's cancer (a kind of uncommon sarcoma known as rhabdomyosarcoma) seems to be accurate.
According to Venezuelan physician, Dr.Jose Rafael Marquina (who has followed Chavez's disease from the beginning, apparently receiving accurate and reliable information from insiders), Chavez has a rhabdomyosarcoma, in metastatic stage, which provides an extremely negative prognosis. Hear Marquina's interview in English in this video:
Marquina has a twitter account in which he provides daily information about the details of the health of Chavez, see in twitter: @marquina04
Unfortunately, Marquina's information is only in Spanish, and most of their interviews (which are very detailed and instructive) are in Spanish too, some of the best ones:
According to Marquina's lastest information in twitter, Chavez is currently suffering from severe complications of the last operation which he received, including:
-Advanced Pneumonia
-Lung embolism
-Paralytic ileus
-Septicemia (sepsis)
-Renal failure (apparently, Chavez has not received dialysis yet).
Marquina's lastest information is that Chavez is alive only because mechanical ventilation is being provided to him. Chavez's family is seriously considering the possibility of putting an end to Chavez's suffering, disconnecting him from the artificial ventilation. Please, keep reading Marquina's twitter for most update info about Chavez (@marquina04).
I've visited Venezuela once (I was in Margarita and Los Roques, two beautiful islands), and I liked the beaches and natural enviroments there, but the country has been largely destroyed in Chavez's goverment, according to my impression and the testimonies of many people there. A large part of the population supports him, because they believe in his good will and the opposition seems to be even more mediocre and inept than Chavez's political movement.
In any case, it is sad that an human being has to pass for such a difficult situation. Even though I strongly disagree with Chavez's socialistic, militaristic and authoritarian ideology, on the human and spiritual level we have to desire that Chavez can overcome such disease, even if (according to Marquina) there are less than 10% of probability of Chavez surviving these complications, let alone his advanced metastatic cancer.
